The Lead Sarcophagus of Saint Helades

A lead sarcophagus belonging to Saint Helades was discovered in the Byzantine crypt of the Roman mausoleum in Umm Qais (northern Jordan), one of the Decapolis cities known anciently as Gadara. The lid features a reversed Greek inscription in relief, which specifically identifies "Helades." She was a woman who served in one of the Byzantine churches in Umm Qais during the 4th or 5th century AD.
