Petrographic Thin-sectioning Lab

Petrography and Sample Preparation Lab

Petrography and Sample Preparation Lab

The Petrography and sample preparation Lab at the Faculty of Archaeology and Anthropology, Yarmouk University, is a specialized unit dedicated to the scientific study and examination of archaeological samples and artifacts. The laboratory is equipped with a range of advanced scientific instruments and techniques that enable precise petrographic and mineralogical analysis of rocks, pottery, and various other archaeological specimens. These analyses assist researchers in determining material compositions, manufacturing methods, and origins, providing valuable scientific insights into ancient technologies used in past eras. In addition to its research role, the laboratory plays a vital role in education and training, offering students practical opportunities to learn and acquire specialized skills in archaeological material analysis and its applications. Furthermore, the laboratory supports scientific research projects for faculty and graduate students, facilitates national and international collaboration, and promotes a multidisciplinary approach between the fields of archaeology, geology, and anthropology.
