The faculty of Archaeology and Anthropology finished its summer season of excavations at Umm Qais

 

The faculty of Archaeology and Anthropology finished its summer season of excavations at the archaeological site of Umm Qais, northern Jordan. The excavations were conducted in co-operation with the Department of Antiquities of Jordan. The dean of the faculty, Prof. Abd al Hakim al-Husban, pointed out that the excavations aimed at training the students and enhancing their skills in field work including excavations, drawing, documentation, etc. From his side, Dr. Maen Omoush, director of the excavations, declared that the team uncovered paved stone floors, walls, and other architectural remains, dated back to the Roman, Byzantine and Islamic periods, based on the pottery sherds, glasses and coins excavated at the site. Dr. Omoush expressed acknowledged the deanship of the faculty and the department of Antiquities of Jordan for their support to achieve the project's goals.

The Faculty of Archaeology and Anthropology at Yarmouk University was established in 1984, as the Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology, aiming at conducting interdisciplinary researches and promoting public awareness of cultural heritage of Jordan and the Arab World.
