he Department of Epigraphy was established in 1985 to train students as specialists in the field of ancient eastern epigraphy, and to study and publish the inscriptions discovered in Jordan. The Department offers a master program in Semitic and Classical epigraphy. The Department’s main project is “The Corpus of Inscriptions of Jordan”, which aims at establishing a database of published and newly discovered inscriptions from Jordan. To fulfill this goal, an ongoing field research has been conducted in the Jordanian Badia to reveal, study, and document inscriptions. The Department has been active in organizing a series of specialized workshops and seminars in epigraphy and related fields. It established the Annual Colloquium of Ancient Epigraphy and Calligraphy as a periodic forum for scholars in Epigraphy.
